My sisters and I were so pleased with the excellent care and compassion provided to our parents during their time at OGH. At ages 89 and 90, we could no longer care for them at home. Dad was in the final stages of a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Our parents had been married for 68 years so the transition from their family home was difficult. The staff at OGH was incredible. From the administrative team to the care givers and everyone else, we could not have asked for better care. Everyone was so responsive to our needs and showed great compassion to our whole family. Sadly, our father passed away in September. We are all so grateful to the OGH staff and will always remember the awesome care our parents received. We would highly recommend this beautiful home to anyone with memory care issues. The activities kept mom as busy as she wanted to be and she especially loved the ability to garden in the huge patio. Thank you again. Less

I think of you every day with your loving, caring and generous heart which was so forthcoming to David and to me during our presence in your most attentive, caring, and supportive and loving “home from home”. David respected and admired you tremendously and would continue beaming even after you left him. ‼️ He so loved your exceedingly kind and loving care!! Thank you for all you are darling 😘😘😘Karen. As I mentioned before, David felt so secure, cared for, respected in your care. He greatly appreciated every single one who was so warm, thoughtful, supportive and attentive to every one of his needs, despite his extremely embarrassing emotions he felt! David loved and appreciated his view from his bed, of the window of greenery and yellow creeper, which he remarked upon so often. He adored his bright room, loved the patio and marveled at the gorgeous flowers everywhere, and bright skies whenever he sat outside. As you know he thought we were living in this beautiful hotel with all the amenities and beauty. How that too gave him such comfort. David never once asked to go to our home as he had done every day when he was at Scripps, the prior week before coming to your wonderfully warm and nurturing care. I was privileged to be given the opportunity by you, to visit whenever I wanted and I know that had i not been allowed to be with David, he would have declined very, very rapidly. Thank you Karen 🙏🙏🙏from the essence of my heart and soul. 😘😘😘 I would love to show our sincere appreciation to you and your astounding staff by bringing lunch one day. Whichever day would be most appropriate when Brenda, Patrick Lexie, Doris, K.P., Miriam, Katrina, Ashton. Mark , Sam would be there. Have I left out anyone who cared for David? Please let me know, any day convenient towards the end of this month, that would be convenient for you. Nancy and Mary were beyond compassionate and supportive to me and welcomed me exuding warmth every single time I arrived. I am so very, very grateful to them and to you all. 🙏🙏💋💕💋💕 Our gratitude with a warm embrace with 💋⭕️💋⭕️💋⭕️💋and love to you always, treasured unique Karen. David is now looking down on us all with tears of profound gratitude running down his face, as do I now. Only now, whole and pain free again. What a comforting thought, which holds me together.Less

My dad has been at the Olivenhain Guest home for almost 4 years now. One of the best highlights was the Christmas eve of 2016. My dad was adorable that day and so right on. OGH had a Christmas eve lunch for the residents and family . our family had a wonderful time . My beautiful sister and beautiful were still alive then ,and the day was fabulous . Spending that Christmas eve with my dad and family at the OGH was something I will never forget. When I have a bad day ,I just look at my pictures of that Christmas eve . My dad is still living . Thank you OGH for keeping my dad happy ,and for loving him❤ Lynette CoryLess

My mother was a resident at Olivenhain for almost a year before her passing. The care there was so much more than just eldercare. They treated her like family and supported us everyday with their care and love. Larger institutions might have more ammenities, but the personal care and attention that she received from the staff and the owners was beyond our expectations. I would recommend Olivenhain to anyone who wants love and care for their family member.Less

On April 14th I visited Olivenhain's community and enjoyed a tour from the owners Hank and Suzanne. I was impressed with the beautiful outdoor courtyard and noting it being enjoyed by their residents and family members. Upon touring inside the community I was pleasantly surprised that the air was fresh and clean smelling and there was no odor that other communities sometimes have. The activity calendar was filled with appropriate activities for a memory care unit and residents were up and about enjoying them. The rooms were neat and very clean and staff on the floor greeted me as I walked past them with friendliness. The community seemed warm and friendly. In visiting with Hank and Suzanne I felt they genuinely cared for each and every resident and held themselves to a very high standard of care for them. I would not hesitate recommending Olivenhain Guest-home to friends and others.Less

This facility is beautiful inside and out. The facility is very clean and never smelled institutional. The insides are airy and bright, while the outside areas are lovely with places to sit in the sun or shade. A lot of care is taken to make sure the residents are safe and can not wander off. The feeling here is one of a protected community that cares about every resident. The staff is very caring, respectful and kind towards the people in their care. The staff makes great efforts to engage with the residents. They have many activities at all levels for residents to partake in. We gave detailed instructions on our family member's care and they followed them carefully. Our family members care here was exception.Less

Both of my parents have been at OGH for 6 months now, and I could not recommend this sweet place more! I spend a lot of time there, and continue to grow in my appreciation for the staff. The caregivers are as caring as they come...they all know my parents well and are excellent at anticipating and meeting their needs. This has become home to us all in many ways, and the staff feels like a big family. Did I mention they genuinely CARE??? That's the greatest asset OGH has. That is the highest priority to me for my parents, and I'm so thankful to have found such a caring environment. If you'd like examples, keep reading... 1. When Dad was losing his appetite recently, the chef changed the menu to serve BBQ ribs because she knew my dad loves them. All of the food is delicious and has great seasoning, but the personal connection between the kitchen and my parents means even more! 2. Everyone chips in for what's needed. The facility manager not only keeps the patio beautiful with the fruit trees and great swings, but he shaves and cuts my dad's hair because Dad loves him to. 3. The activities directors & musicians keep all the residents laughing and smiling often. My 11 year old daughter likes to schedule her visits around bingo with her favorite activity coordinator (he's also a retired scientist so brings great lessons). 4. The medical staff goes above and beyond to communicate with me on any changes or needs they see with my folks. 5. The housekeeping staff does a very thorough job cleaning well and often, and always converses with residents and offers some love and encouragement. Overall I believe OGH offers its residents a warm loving place to call home!Less

Two years ago, we needed to find a care facility for our mother/mother in law to live. We visited several memory care facilities in the North County Coastal area. Many are run by large corporations, but Olivenhain Guest Home (OGH) is a family owned/run business. When we visited the OGH, the difference was immediately striking. The attitude of the owners and the staff were especially caring and more personalized. Activities, such as music 7 days a week and the large courtyard in front of the building, are specialties not found everywhere. Tomi Dutton has been pleased to live at OGH since she first visited with the owners, especially Suzanne. Tomi seems to have found the best “home away from home” at OGH. The thoughtful staff greets guests at the door, which is a welcoming feeling right at the start, and is comforting, caring and thoughtful. There is something in the air that carries a warmth and thoughtfulness not seen in other care giving homes. The fact that it is called “Olivenhain Guest Home”, rather than memory or Alzheimer’s care, is indicative of the difference from other facilities. The passion of the owners, who have had parents with dementia and Parkinson’s, shows in the care and love they and their staff provide. We appreciate the care that has been helpful to Tomi and we appreciate the efforts of the caregivers.Less
